Healthcare Provider Identifiers (HPI) for Australian Genetic Counsellors

Australian Genetic Counsellors on the HGSA-Register are eligible for a Healthcare Provider Identifier - Individual (HPI-I), which is a unique number that identifies you as a Genetic Counsellor with Services Australia.

A HPI-I is a unique identifier assigned to individual healthcare providers in Australia, facilitating secure identification and information exchange in the healthcare system. The HPI-I is used in various digital health services, including electronic prescribing, secure messaging, and My Health Record.

Services Australia is currently working with the HGSA as we have been approved as the credentialing body for Genetic Counsellors, through our Board of Censors for Genetic Counselling policies in accordance with NASRHP Standards.

Service Australia is assisting in bulk uploads and allocation of HPI-I’s to all Genetic Counsellors who give consent. You may not need a HPI-I right now, but we encourage all Genetic Counsellors to consent to strengthen our professional recognition within Federal Services and gain ownership of the title of ‘Genetic Counsellor’.

To consent please follow these instructions:

1.      Sign into hgsa.org.au

2.      Click on your name and select My account

3.      Click on the HPI-I tab

4.      Update your details, please ensure all mandatory details are included

5.      Give consent and your communication preference

If you already have an HPI-I or you have any questions please email Lauren Hunt [email protected]. Thank you to those who have already given consent, you will be included in the first upload.
