Masters Genetic Counselling Student Placement funding Grants 2026
The ASGC executive has approved funding for grants to be awarded to current Masters of Genetic Counselling (MGC) students to assist with the costs associated with attending clinical placements. This was initiated following consideration and consultation with MGC directors regarding the increasing costs of living and travelling for students required to live away from home for the duration of their placements. The ASGC executive have agreed to provide up to eight $500 bursaries for students from The University of Melbourne (UoM) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) to apply for assistance.
Students are invited to apply to the ASGC who will consider applications based on the following guidelines:
- Funds should only be used for flights/travel/accommodation associated with the placement and not be used for other living/recreational expenses incurred during the placement.
- Students must be current members of ASGC
- Students can only be awarded support once per degree
Students who are required to travel/live away from their usual residence for the duration of the placement are invited to apply for a travel bursary by submitting a brief application (no more than 250 words) in a word document. The application must include details of the intended placement (timeframe of placement/location compared to usual place of residence/cost involved/whether the host site is aware and willing to host them). Students should also include how and why the bursary would be helpful for them.
Applications should be emailed to ASGC Secretary ([email protected]) by COB 17th April 2026.
Successful applicants will be advised within two weeks of that date.
