RCPA/HGSA Molecular Genetics QAP

From May 2010 the Molecular Genetics QAP Committee came under the combined management of the RCPA and the HGSA.  Now known as the RCPA/HGSA Molecular Genetics QAP Committee, the committee has representation from both the HGSA and the RCPA.  The program has a full time administrator, Mr Craig Kennedy (craig.kennedy@rcpaqap.com.au).  For further information, please contact the QAP office:(molecular.genetics@rcpaqap.com.au).

ASoC Quality Assessment Programme (QAP) – Clinical Cytogenetics

The ASoC QAP is an accredited Provider of Proficiency Testing and is compliant with the International Standard ISO/IEC 17043: Conformity assessment – General Requirements for Proficiency Testing.

The QAP scheme in Clinical Cytogenetics is organised by the Australasian Society of Cytogeneticists (ASoC) , (see committee details) and invites participation from cytogenetics laboratories in Australia, New Zealand and other countries.

Participation is open to all laboratories offering a clinical cytogenetics service. Areas covered by the scheme include Constitutional (blood), Prenatal (amniotic fluid, chorionic villus) and Cancer Cytogenetics (bone marrow, blood) and FISH. We are also offering proficiency testing modules for Image Analysis, Formalin-Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) FISH and Microarray testing.

This external audit scheme involves inter-laboratory comparison of laboratory statistical performance data (e.g. success rates, reporting times etc), slide and case audit and proficiency testing (image analysis, microarray and FFPE FISH). It assesses various aspects of the testing process including technical quality of preparations, result interpretation and written reports.

Best Practice Microarray Guidelines for Australasian Laboratories

These guidelines have been written by the ASoC QAP Microarray Subcommittee with input from the HGSA and ASoC Community. They have been published to provide guidance and assistance to laboratories as they establish Microarray services and represent what is considered to be current best practice measures.
