Maintenance of Professional Standards
Members and Fellows of the HGSA in cytogenetics are required to keep their qualification current by participating in a Maintenance of Professional Standards (MOPS) program.
This program runs over a two year cycle. The MOPS program is assessed by the accumulation of points achieved by participation in a range of activities (conference attendance, journal reading, seminar attendance etc.). A list of these can be found in the MOPS information and log book.
Participants should keep a continuous record of the points they accumulate in the log book, but submit the tally sheet only for MOPS consideration. The Log book should be signed by the department head.
Every two years, (falling on the odd years 2015, 2017, 2019) MOPS participants will be expected to register with the MOPS program coordinator by completing and submitting a registration form. There is a charge for registration which is paid through the HGSA website. Registration forms should be submitted by the 30 April (next deadline 30 April 2017).
A tally sheet of points accumulated in the previous 2 years (e.g. 2013, 2014) should be submitted by 1 June 2015. Certificates of achievement will be provided later that year.
For the year 2015, covering points accumulated in the years 2013 and 2014: Participants should register by 30 April 2015. They should submit their tally sheet (for points accumulated in the years 2013 and 2014) by 1 June 2015.
Certificates of achievement will then be provided to participants before the end of 2015.
Points accumulated for the years 2013 and 2014 should be submitted in 2015. Although only tally sheets are submitted to the MOPS coordinator, completed log books, signed by the department head, should be kept in case of audit.
