Enjoy interaction with fellow geneticists at all levels, participate in Certification and Maintenance of Professional Standards programs. Attend our Annual Scientific Meetings at special member only rates and join a Special Interest Group. Participate in Committees at Branch or Federal level and gain access to Member Only sections of the HGSA website. Access member-only Travel Grants and Student grants to attend relevant meetings in Australia and Overseas.
How do I apply?
Proposal by an existing member is a condition of membership. Applications for membership should be sent to your local Branch Secretary and will be considered at the periodic meeting of your local branch committee. Overseas members who do not know an existing member who can propose or second their membership should send their application directly to the Secretariat.

What are the types of membership?
Student
Discounted fees are available to:
Students
- full-time student or trainee scientist enrolled in an undergraduate course relevant to the field of Human Genetics, and
- intend a continuing involvement in the field of Human Genetics; and
- have a total taxable income of less than $35.000 per annum
Scientific Trainees
Student membership rates for up to two years to trainee scientists who:
- are enrolled in an undergraduate certificate, diploma or degree course relevant to the field of human genetics and
- have a total taxable income less than $35,000 per annum
Ordinary Member
Apply for ordinary membership if:
- you live in Australia or New Zealand and
- you hold a relevant degree or professional qualification and
- your primary vocation is or has been research, education or administration related to Human Genetics
Overseas Member
Apply for overseas membership if:
- you live outside Australia and
- you hold a relevant degree or professional qualification and
- your primary vocation is or has been research, education or administration related to Human Genetics
Associate Member
Apply for associate membership if you have a personal or professional reason for participating in the Society’s activities and/or obtaining information on human genetics and Society activities through membership of the society.
Organisational Member
Apply for organisational membership if:
- you have a place of business in Autralasia and
- a professional reason for participating in the Society’s activities and
- the HGSA Council considers you have aims consistent with the aims of the Society.
Where do I get the application form?

The HGSA generally does not refund the unused portion of membership payments. However refunds may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Executive Committee.
